This is definitely hands on learning at its best with this chocolate sight words writing tray. We are huge fans of using a multisensory approach to learning and practice it in our homeschooling daily. So when the thought of using chocolate for something came up, I knew that would be a win in this house. I mean who doesn’t love chocolate? 😉

A Chocolate Writing Tray for Sight Words… What could be better???

This is a wonderful activity to help children develop their writing skills through a multisensory activity. Although I am focusing this on preschool, kindergarten, and first graders using sight words.  You can easily adapt this same idea for any age. Children learn differently and for a lot of children feeling the words helps tremendously with learning the words.

This set-up is easy. We made a box of instant chocolate pudding (you can easily make homemade, but honestly since they were just using it for writing I wasn’t to worried about the ingredients). If they help you make it they are working on wonderful practical life skills as well as mathematics.

Pour approx. a cup of pudding onto a tray and smooth it out. The kids used their own cake spreader to regularly smooth out the pudding. Add your favorite sight word cards and you are ready for some fun and learning.

*You can encourage your child to make the letters smaller as his skills improve. You can also move on to using a small paintbrush or twig to give the same feel as a pencil.

This smiley face makes me so happy. She loves making her words and licking her fingers 😉 I don’t blame her. Yum!

Multisensory learning activities are proven to help all kids learn better. With this writing tray your child is reading their words (auditory and visual) and writing them in the pudding (Kinesthetic/Tactile) keeping them interested, excited, and wanting more. I think you should definitely give this a try. I am sure your kids will love it.
