A gift that keeps giving

I love putting together a gift for someone special, that I know will mean so much to that person. Which brings me to, what to give the child that loves Geography and dreams of visiting Paris… On a budget, a very tight budget, so I have to be as thrifty as possible when coming up with ideas.
Here is what I came up with for my sons 9th Birthday.

This was a great internet find at Made by Joel, a miniature scene from Paris
I purchased a large paper mache suitcase from Michael’s that is designed for traveling.I filled it with Water color paints and paper and a GREAT art book. (I had a coupon so I only paid $8 for the suitcase and $5 for the paints and paper)
This is a picture of  what the suitcase looks like.

I was lucky to find this Europe by Rail book on the FREE bookshelf at the library, I thought it would be a fun thing to have and look at. It also came with the map below, and Blazey loves maps.
Lastly you can’t travel anywhere these days without a passport, so what better than his very own passport (smile) he can fill it with stickers, or stamps from the places he studies. I printed this one out from Road Trip USA curriculum, which we love. All together this great gift cost me less than $25 and I’m sure it will be enjoyed for a long time.
Do you put together gifts on a budget, if so I’d love to hear about them.
