Homeschool Room with a View

This past September while everyone was posting all of their wonderful school room pictures, I was preparing for our new little blessing. I was busy organizing the boys schooling, and trying to get as much prepared before the baby came as possible. This way I could enjoy the baby days and still be able to continue with our schooling.

I decided even though a lot of you are finishing up and taking breaks for the summer, we are year rounders, so why not show you our room now. This is how our schooling/sunroom has worked for us this year. (2012-2013).

I love signs, wise words around the house just make me smile. This sign hangs above the doorway. Home is where your story begins. I think it’s just perfect for our homeschooling room.
This is Baby Bells space. A nice comfy seat/bed, mirrors for her to see her pretty face, and a basket with some of our favorite board books. Touch and Feel Baby AnimalsCounting Kisses, Daddy loves me, and My first colors book to name a few.
This is a picture of our peace/reading/resting area. If you would like to see more pictures and information on this area click here.
I love all things Eeboo because the pictures and the quality are wonderful. These Eeboo counting birds hang above the windows on the back wall.
As much as I love our room, I would Looove to get rid of these vertical blinds, however we are renters and these blinds have to stay. This is a view of the room looking straight in while standing at the entrance way.

Every week or two I change our nature table. The week I took this picture we were learning all about colors. We use nature a lot in our learning and the children really enjoy it. If you would like to see some of our other nature set up’s click here.
I don’t know if we could live with out our Farmers Market. All of the kids love to play Kitchen and Store, they use the cash register (math learning) and lot’s of pretend play. We are huge fans of Sweet Treat TrayMelissa and Doug PizzaPlan toys Veggies, and the wooden Food and Beverage jars.
Little B’s tray’s and T basket for the day. His tray’s sit on a low bookshelf, so he can carry them over to the table or floor by himself.
These three baskets are filled with Baby Bell’s books and toys. I switch her toys and books out just like I do for Little B every couple of days. This way it keeps them interested. If you would like to see examples of items included in Baby Bell’s play (treasure baskets) click here.

Our table is from Pottery Barn Kids and can be found here.
This is Little B’s alphabet wall. You might notice that some of the letters aren’t very straight, that’s because  Little B’s favorite part of his Letters of the week schooling is adding the letter he is working on, by himself.  He is so proud of his alphabet wall, every time we have visitors he brings them over to see it. These alphabet letter cards are from 1+1+1=1.

If you notice I have an inexpensive July calendar hanging up right now, that is because we are starting our Calendar/circle time in July and instead of putting up our new school calendar, I am letting him practice writing his numbers on these paper sheets. The weather and day chart can be found free here.

Our God’s Animal’s sign is part of our Geography curriculum. For each state we learn about, we include  in our learning the animals that represent that state.

Our Geography Wall  includes a USA map(We have at least four maps of the United States hanging in our house), A world map, A map of the Continents made by the kids. The list hanging on the left hand side, is a list of all 50 states and when they were founded. I printed it out and laminated it for the boys. I also have a small multiplication chart hanging for the boys to reference if they want to.(yes, I know it’s not geography). I just like having everything together.
As Baby Bell get’s a little older, I will change this area again to suit her growing needs. Right now this works perfectly.
I think every homeschooler would agree, a schooling room has books, hopefully lot’s and lot’s of great books. Keep in mind as you look at our room, I have been collecting books for many years. I love to read, and my hopes are to pass that love on to my kids by providing them with great books. You can travel the world, explore anything, and be anybody by reading a wonderfully written book.

If you are interested in my bookcases and baskets they are the Cameron bookcases from Pottery Barn Kids. I have all size baskets, but pictured here are the Medium and Large.

As time goes by and the children grow, I’m sure our room will change with them. I’ve already been thinking about the changes for Baby Bell, as she starts to explore more of her surroundings. In the future, I hope to keep this room feeling as perfect as it has felt for us this year. Thanks for visiting and taking a peek into our schooling room.
As the children are growing and changing, so has our room.
Here is how our homeschooling room has changed.
