The Best Advice for Busy Moms about Nutritional Supplements

When it comes to living a healthy life and taking good care of your body, nutrition, hydration, exercise and rest are some of the key components. The human body is so complex that nutrition, on a cellular level, is very intricate. Cells are the building blocks, the most basic unit of your body. You should be able to receive all that your body needs from a well-balanced diet, but the food these days is so processed that many of the precious vitamins and minerals are destroyed. This is why nutritional supplements can be important to help you achieve proper nutrition.

Some of the basic nutrients that your body needs to function are potassium, calcium, magnesium, vitamins A, C, E, and fiber. These are vital to cellular function and are a few of the basic nutrients that people typically do not get enough of.  To understand some of the benefits of nutritional supplements you have to know what these basic nutrients do for your body.

The Benefits of Nutritional Supplements

The multivitamin is the most popular dietary supplement, with 75 percent of supplement users taking one, according to a 2016 survey from the Council for Responsible Nutrition.

1. Potassium

Most people know that you get potassium from bananas, but many do not understand the significance potassium makes in your body. Potassium is important for balancing your fluid, so it helps maintains your blood pressure. It is also essential to nerve signal conduction and works in your body to help your muscles contract. Low potassium levels can cause irregular heartbeats which could ultimately lead to a heart attack.

2. Calcium

You probably know that calcium comes from milk products and is important for bone growth and teeth health. Calcium is important for those body functions but it is also a mineral that is vital to blood clotting. It is essential for your heart and nerve functions, as well. Low calcium can lead to diseases of the bones like osteoporosis (holes in the bones that weaken the structural density).

3. Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for many different functions in the body. Some of these tasks include maintaining proper blood glucose levels, blood pressure control, nerve and muscle function and protein formation within the cells. It is an important component of the production of energy with glucose and protein. Low magnesium levels can lead to gastrointestinal problems like nausea, vomiting, and appetite loss. It can cause fatigue, muscle numbness, and cramps.

4. Vitamins A, C, E, and fiber

Vitamin A is important to cell growth, eye health, and maintaining your immune system. Vitamin C is vital to help cellular repairmen and growth. Vitamin E is a key component of healthy skin by controlling retinol levels in your body, and boosting your immune system. Dietary fiber is a key component in your intestinal system. It helps to relieve constipation, helps to keep you feeling full and eating less so it aids in weight loss.

There are lots of choices when it comes to dietary supplements, and so it’s wise to talk with a doctor or other health care practitioner about what dietary supplements are right for you.

As with any mineral or substance that your body needs to function, it is also possible to have too much of it and have negative results from it. These are just a few of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that your body needs to function properly. If you are not getting everything you need, nutritional supplements are a great way to augment what your body is missing.
