Astronomy Science Homeschool Curriculum (Apologia review)
Science has got to be one of the best subjects. Kids can learn about so many amazing things. That is why I was so excited to get the chance to explore Apologia Educational Ministries homeschool curriculum for science! My kids really enjoy our time together working through Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition.
Here is a peek into this fabulous curriculum.
Astronomy for Kids with Apologia
What did we get and why do I think you should definitely invest in the whole set…
Okay here is the run down on the Exploring Creation with Astronomy curriculum... First off WE LOVE IT!
If you would have asked me my opinion a couple of years ago I would have told you it just didn’t work for us at the time. I’ve always known it was an amazing curriculum, but it can be a lot of reading. And you really need to be focused to get a lot out of it.
They give a lot of great information, ideas, and things to think/talk about throughout each lesson.
Since we have always used more of a literature based style of learning and read a lot during the day my kids wanted Science to be a time for hands on learning and a lot less sitting time.
Now that they offer the Audio Cd we are loving life. We can really enjoy listening to the Cd while we look at the pictures in the student text book. It works out perfect for us.
The Notebooking Journals are a great addition for jotting down notes, drawing pictures, making mini books, and so much more.
The colorful pictures and hundreds of pages of activities is definitely great for mom too (No Planning) 😉
The Journal gives a suggested daily schedule that outlines four to seven assignments per lesson. At a pace of two daily assignments per week, this course would take a full year.
You can easily make your own schedule or do the lessons that fit into your homeschooling.
Exploring Creation with Astronomy is the Perfect Homeschool Curriculum for Science
What are some of the things you will learn about:
What is Astronomy?
The Sun
The Planets
Space Rocks
The Dwarf Planets
Stars, Galaxies, and Space Travel
We created a fun Mnemonic for remembering the planets in order. For this you use the first letter of each word to make a sentence.
Our sentence is: My Victory Equals Moms Jelly Sandwich Under Noodles.
We got a lot of laughs with this and the best thing is the kids are still saying it and they remember. Win for mom!
The kids and I are looking forward to enjoying this year with Apologia. So much to learn and so many great activities to do.
I definitely recommend Apologia Educational Ministries Science Curriculum for grades K-6. In fact I would say any age above 6 years old would get a lot out of it. I know I do.
