Reuse Things You Find in Your Kitchen

Every family ends up with leftovers from time to time, enjoy creating new recipe ideas with your preschoolers using leftover food. Creating recipes is a fun way to teach your preschoolers how to reuse things in the kitchen. The less we put into the trash, the more we conserve our Earth’s beauty.

Decorate Reusable Tote Bags

Preschoolers often love doing arts and crafts so this idea for Earth Day is a fabulous way to encourage something that your preschoolers already enjoy; coloring and crafting. Gather up reusable totes or buy some that you can use every time you shop. Place your craft supplies like crayons, paint, and glitter on the table and decorate bags with your preschoolers. This is also a great idea to do with a group of kids.

Decorate Recycle Bins

Gather up some materials and create your own recycle bins, if you already have recycled containers, then it’s a great time to update them after teaching your children how and what to recycle. Then your preschoolers can use markers, paint, and any other craft supplies they desire to decorate the family recycle bins so that they’re more apt to place recyclables in the containers throughout the year.

Plant a Garden

It doesn’t matter what the weather is outside; you can start a potted garden or indoor garden any time of the year. The best day to start focusing on growing your fruits and vegetables is Earth Day. Take a trip to your local nursery to find seedlings, seeds, potting soil and pots to have a day full of planting a garden with your preschoolers to celebrate Earth Day.

Have a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Create a list of outdoor items that preschoolers can find, such as pinecones or ferns and other outdoor materials that our Earth creates in nature. Once your preschoolers have completed the scavenger hunt, bring the items inside to discuss how each of these natural materials helps our Earth and everyone who lives on the planet.

Litter Clean Up

Host a beach clean-up day or take your kids to your neighborhood park and just walk around picking up any trash that you find. You can take it home to recycle or just drop it off at any local recycling bins. This is a great wa to get preschoolers involved in helping your community and changing the world.

These are some simple ways that preschoolers can help with Earth Day. Remember that preschoolers can be included in everything you do for Earth Day and every day. If the activity is engaging while also being educational, they retain great information and memories.

Everything you share with your children about recycling and ways to protect the Earth will help them in the future. Children that have learned how to protect our Earth can go on to make the changes needed.
