Silly Putty

Edible Silly Putty Recipe
We love making slime, putty, and homemade playdough, so for this recipe, we decided to combine the ideas for the perfect edible putty. This silly putty is soft and smooth like slime but stretches like a putty.
What you will need to make your Silly Putty is in this picture below. However, I have it displayed in a recipe list form to print out towards the bottom of the page. Have Fun!

How to Make Silly Putty
These are the supplies needed to make 1 batch of silly putty.
- 12 large marshmallows
- 2 teaspoons coconut oil
- 3-4 drops liquid food coloring (multiple colors)
- Rainbow sprinkles
- ½ cup cornstarch
We made 4 different batches to go with our weather theme.

In a medium size microwave safe bowl, add coconut oil. Then add marshmallows to the coconut oil and microwave it on high for 20-30 seconds.

You know when it is ready when the marshmallows get VERY big and fluffy!

Add cornstarch and stir until it’s well blended.
If still too sticky, add a ½ tablespoon of cornstarch until it does not stick to the spoon.

Sprinkle your work surface with cornstarch.
Take your silly putty from the bowl and knead it until it’s nice and smooth.

Putty Recipe

Add a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallows and mix it well until it’s combined. If you like, you can do this in the bowl and then knead it on the table until the color is well blended.
Snow Putty

The next time I make weather themed putty or slime I’d change the colors a bit and make these:
- White for snow
- Blue for the rain
- rainbow for rainbow (of course)
- Yellow for the sun
- Black or dark purple for a storm
The children love all of the colors and textures in homemade putty so feel free to experiment and have fun.

For the rainbow Silly Putty, add rainbow sprinkles.
