I was so excited when I was asked to share my thoughts on the book Dyslexia Outside-the-Box. Over the past couple of years, I’ve shared about several differences and different needs children may have, but I haven’t touched on Dyslexia yet. This book was eye-opening and the perfect thing to share with you as we start a new year.

Dyslexia Outside-the-Box is more than just another book to read about how to help dyslexic kids thrive. This book goes way beyond that. The author has over 17 years of experience working with kids of all ages who have been diagnosed with dyslexia. Within this book, you will find yourself diving into the definition and characteristics of dyslexia as well as learn about failures and successful attempts at helping children that deal with dyslexia.

Help Dyslexic Kids Thrive – Dyslexia Outside-the-Box

When given a chance to read a helpful book that documents someone’s own personal experiences that incorporate scientific facts about brain development too versus a traditional step by step guide on how to help your dyslexic kid thrive, I would opt for the first option every time. While reading Dyslexia Outside-the-Box I found myself wanting to read more, I wanted to learn more and I was inspired by the author’s experiences.

Why You Should Read Dyslexia Outside-the-Box

Written by Beth Ellen Nash, the creator of Wings to Soar Online Academy, Dyslexia Outside-the-Box lets you travel along the story of her experiences and best practices for helping dyslexic kids thrive. Dyslexia is a genetic trait that is passed down from generation to generation. If you have a child who has dyslexia, chances are you have a relative within your family tree that also lives with dyslexia but may not have been diagnosed.

Dyslexia Outside-the-Box goes beyond explaining the basics of dyslexia that most might research with a quick online search. This book helps you see the bigger picture in a world where kids have been pushed to fit inside of a mold that doesn’t suit all kids. There is no one size fits all standard for human beings and kids who have been diagnosed with dyslexia will have hidden talents that go unnoticed unless we fight for their abilities to shine through and be admired.

The extensive appendices are like talking to a friend and getting advice. They equip parents for the integral role they play in helping their child succeed. Believe me, you’ll want to refer back to these appendices over and over again for multisensory ideas, high-frequency spelling patterns, resource recommendations, and much more.

The Flip-Side Strengths of Dyslexia
You’re not going to cure dyslexia. In fact, you wouldn’t want to. Many of the qualities you love about the dyslexics in your life include parts that are wired in.

Practical Strategies for Reading, Spelling, and Writing
The insights into reading, spelling, and writing challenges are accompanied by strategies for helping outside-the-box learners succeed in school and Homeschooling.

Extensive Resources to Help Demystify Dyslexia
The valuable appendices are like talking to a friend for advice to navigate the maze of accommodations, remediation options, and challenges that often co-exist with dyslexia.

This book will inspire you to think outside of the box, to dive deep into the realm of having a creative mind, surely wired differently but a creative mind just the same. Dyslexia Outside-the-Box will showcase how a dyslexic kid can be raised to know that they are amazing, that their unique diagnosis doesn’t make them less than, perhaps it makes them more than. Each kid in this world has their own strengths and dyslexic kids are no different.

Enjoy reading Dyslexia Outside-the-Box as you understand more about dyslexia and how it can impact a kid who is placed in the wrong learning environment. Watch as you learn more about how you can work to homeschool your dyslexic child in a way that encourages their strengths while building upon their weaknesses. Understanding how your kid’s brain works are half the battle when it comes to creating a learning environment that works best for your children.
