How Notebooking Can Enhance Your Homeschool

Share Button

Notebooking provides a creative outlet for children to express what they have learned. The focus is on the knowledge gained and writing or drawing about the subject will help them to absorb what they are learning. Think of notebooking like an educational scrapbook or journal of those things your children found meaningful in a subject.

Ways Notebooking Enhances Your Homeschool

  • Helps your child retain knowledge by forming a deeper understanding of the subject area.
  • Cuts out busywork used to assess progress while allowing your child to dig deeper into aspects of the subject he is most interested in.
  • Can be used for all subjects or just for special areas of interest to the child.
  • Allows the child to research a topic associated with a particular subject in a constructive manner. For instance, if a child is studying ancient history, and shows a particular interest in weaponry he can create a notebook devoted to that aspect.
  • Shows off the child’s personality and interests.
  • Instead of memorizing important dates and aspects of a subject, a child will immerse himself in the subject and gain his own understanding of what is important.
  • Allows a low stress and highly creative way for a child to learn to write effectively.
  • Notebooking can equally appeal to an artistic child as well as child who dislikes to cut and color. Some children create a notebook that resembles a scrapbook while others prefer not to embellish so much.
