History ~ 12 Months of Montessori Learning
Learning about the Presidents
To start off a new theme for our learning we always enjoy a few great books. This gets the kids excited and even more interested in the topic. This month we read The New Big Book of U.S. Presidents.
If you and your kids want to learn fun facts about the presidents the book So You Want to Be President is great. It’s been one of our favorites for a long time.
The older boys love the Who Was Series and we read The Landmark History of The American People as a read aloud (If you are interested in this read aloud make sure it is the new updated version~ we have really enjoyed it).
With all the presidential talk everywhere it has sparked an interest with the kids. My older boys have known the presidents for a long time, so we decided to introduce them to the younger children.
The first activity which is Bells favorite is Matching the presidents to their cards… This USA Presidents Toob was PERFECT!!!
I love when they all work together and the older children help the little ones.
We have used the Melissa and Doug educational writing mats for various different things and really enjoy them. In fact the boys reference this presidents map regularly in our homeschooling.
These Free Presidents Montessori Cards have been a wonderful addition to our schooling and I hope you will have a lot of fun with them too. You can download your set below.
*Asking questions and talking with the kids about what it takes to be a good president. what kind of characteristics make a good president. What should you look for in picking a president. What’s important to you and this country?
*One place we love to visit for great information and new discoveries is Kids Discover. You and your kids can spend hours on there reading and learning about so many things.
*Did you know that your kids can write a letter to the president and get a response and care package back? Isn’t that awesome? Here is the website for you to Contact the White House. Personally we think that is super cool and our letters are on the way.
Another fun thing to learn is Which presidents are on your money? Click the link or picture for more cool money facts from The Washington Post and Nerd Wallet.
