Transportation Sensory Play
Lego Transportation Theme Sensory Bin
I think we’re all in agreeance that using Legos is a great way to get the kids to build and be creative but don’t forget about the fact that they’re versatile as well. Using them for Transportation Sensory Play is a great indoor activity that will have them seeing all sorts of fun new ways to line up and play with their Legos.
- Build a town
- Your Community
- Make a park
- A city
- A farm
- you can even create a favorite vacation idea.
Your kids can even help to create this fun sensory bin at home and will actually probably want to. They’ll be running back and forth and adding so many items to this sensory activity that they’ll be so excited to start playing.
Preschool Transportation Theme
What you will need to make your Transportation Preschool Theme Sensory Bin is in the picture below. However, I have it displayed in a recipe list form to print out toward the bottom of the page. Have Fun!
LEGO Sensory Bin Supplies Needed:
- About 2 pounds of economy rice
- Gallon size zip bag, we store the rice in this, so it isn’t a one time use plastic for us.
- 1-3 tablespoons of nontoxic green or brown paint; I used this exact one: Sax Liquid Washable Watercolor Paint.
- A random mix of Legos you might just already have on hand, or a kit along these lines is great:
- LEGO City Great Vehicles Garbage Truck (we converted this recycling truck into a dump truck)
- Marbles for water
- River rocks
- Trees
- Tub, tray or bin similar to this, we use this exact one in the 4.6-gallon size
Transportation Activities for Preschoolers
Let’s get started… Sensory bins are so much fun, and a transportation activity using LEGO’S is definitely a winning idea.
How to Make a Transportation Theme Sensory Bin
See the simple process below!
Pour the rice into the zip bag, add as much or as little paint as you would like, and then have your helpers gently mush it all around to spread the color; if desired, add more paint; just make sure the rice doesn’t become wet and oversaturated.
Sensory Activities
Because this watercolor paint is absorbed into the rice so well, I just transfer it right into the play bin and let it dry for about 30 to 60 minutes.
During that time, you can collect your other supplies for the bin. Make sure to let the kids help!
When the rice is ready, you can invite your children to come to help build a park for their Lego friends.
Let them continue to add in whatever items they want to create a cool place to play.
Their imagination is going to go wild over this!
