I am so excited to get started sharing our wonderful month of learning. This United States foam map puzzle is so much fun. I made a copy of the map for the younger children to use as their control map. it works out Perfect. I’ve been doing Me on the Map for years, and it’s always a favorite geography activity for preschool and kindergarten.

The 2nd shelf is our Animals of the world matching. We like to use Schleich animals and Toobs, to go along with this wonderful felt Activity Map.

The children also love working on Land, Sea, Air activities. The one we worked on this month is a free printable from Montessori Print Shop; I set up the pretty bottles to match.  Our World Geoblocks are so much fun, and great for hands-on learning. We enjoyed 2 part Continent Card matching with Bells. Another exceptional addition to any month long study is a book basket.

We LOVE having a geography book basket. The children can easily get out books, activity books, and our favorite music from around the world.

This is a close up of the control map I made and our foam puzzle map. You can easily do the same with any puzzle that fits inside a copy machine. I wish the Montessori Puzzle Maps were in my budget, but they just aren’t right now, so we are making it work on a budget.

Below is a full picture of the giant felt activity map. It comes with wonderful land, water, and animal labels. This is another excellent hands-on activity and can be used with anyone age 2 – adult.

Montessori Geography and Culture through Montessori Music Activities

As I was looking around one of my favorite places to shop for Montessori Materials, I spotted several great instruments I knew my kids would love. Montessori  Services has something for everyone. This month I knew these instruments were the perfect thing to bring music into our geography learning.

You might also love this fantastic Hugg a Planet Earth, or maybe The Flags of the World Pocket Guide is more your style, but for today I am super excited to share how much we loved our new instruments and how we used them to learn more about the world.

Our Painted Croaking Frog was a huge hit for all of the children. Handcrafted in Thailand, and a must-have for every child to enjoy. We love the Croaking Frog! The children have been great at sharing it, but every day the croaking frog gets used by everyone. Including me 😉

This Peruvian Spin Drum is so much fun. It is a fair trade percussion instrument from Peru. It comes with a cool little booklet sharing the cultural origins about each drum. I loved that 🙂 It was a favorite with my six year old, but I have to say he loved all of the instruments.

Kalimba Thumb Piano  is such a wonderful instrument. Hand-painted on the top and a coconut shell for the base comes straight from Indonesia. The older boys really enjoyed playing the Kalimba and checking out Indonesia.  Another super cool instrument that we explored and enjoyed was The Junior Gourd Shaker.( These amazed me from the start, from high in the Andes, the villagers from Cochas Chico keep the art of gourd making alive. Every child should have a cool shaker, and this one is so special. Handmade from a real gourd! Love it!

Montessori Services is a wonderful place to shop. You can find many activities and hands-on learning items for your kids to enjoy.
