DIY Montessori Movable Alphabet

The Magnet Clip Men have been so handy. The kids can clip cards easily which is great for working fine motor skills. Bells picks a picture card to clip, we add the letters and say the sound of each letter, ending with the word. Then she points to the picture and says the word or sound.
Clipping the cards works on fine motor skills and hand muscles that help with writing. Through the movable alphabet and picture cards, the child becomes familiar with the alphabet and how letters are put together to make words.
Bells is working on sandpaper letters and phonetic sounds which is the step before introducing the moveable alphabet and the child using it on their own. We use the activity on the magnet tray for a great intro to the moveable alphabet.
Introduce the sounds individually, and after the child has mastered the sounds it is much easier for them to understand and be able to sound out words. Teaching Montessori In The Home-The Pre-School Years is a wonderful book, I highly recommend.

We absolutely love the cursive wood movable alphabet and the print set is absolutely amazing too. I have been having so much fun watching my son sound out words and use the moveable alphabet. He has been enjoying it often and loves being able to read. Seeing his excitement is contagious in our house and makes us love Montessori even more.
All About Reading has really been a big help for giving him that boost of confidence and the great materials needed.

I Love this laminator it’s been such an important tool for our homeschooling.
You can print out as many pages as you would like. I printed mine on cardstock and laminated it for extra durability.

Love these printables! We also ordered the Darice box you recommended, but the letters are nearly impossible to get out! Even for little fingers :/ Did you encounter this problem?
My little one doesn’t have any problems. I cut them down just a little bit more. I found leaving a little space between the letter and the sides made it easy to get out.
I’ll try trimming them. Thanks!
I am so glad I found your site!
Where did you get the green box you store your magnetic letters?
I am looking to organize these 🙂
Thank you in advance
Thank you! The box came with the letters and it’s from Learning Resources.
I love how you use the magnet board. Sometimes it’s nice to get off the mat into a new environment. I’m going to get some of those little men clips. So cute!
