What is Peace education? “Peace education is the process of acquiring the values, the knowledge and developing the attitudes, skills, and behaviors to live in harmony with oneself, with others, and with the natural environment.” – Wikipedia
Peace education is an important part of Montessori education, and it was how we started our peaceful homeschooling journey. Maria Montessori advocated for peace and once said, “Establishing a lasting peace is the work of education.” I agree, don’t you?
There are many different ways to learn about peace and become peaceful in this world, which is SO NOISY RIGHT NOW.
In fact, I thought it was so important to share these wonderful peacemakers with you today because learning about the good other people are doing and have done can inspire us to be better ourselves.
What a wonderful thing to share with children.
For older children look for books like the “Who Is Series“ they are great non-fiction books filled with wonderful stories and true facts. I think my son has read almost every book in the series and that’s a lot. It really is a great book series for kids.
Part of living peacefully is creating an environment that promotes the development of peace.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not perfect. My house isn’t ideal, and it doesn’t give you the same feeling as a spa day does. Ha! But we are working on living peacefully, thinking about others first, using calming tactics regularly, and learning to make this world more peaceful.
I have spent a lot of time working on inner peace this past year. Inner peace pays attention to one’s needs within oneself, whatever those needs are.
Inner peace, meditation, and quiet time throughout the day can really change how you feel. I absolutely love Wendy Halperin’s book Peace. The pictures are wonderful, and the book reveals the heart of where peace truly must originate: within ourselves.
I hope you enjoyed these ideas for living and learning peacefully along with these educational Peacemakers Printables.
