Holiday and Summer Break Screen Time Rules for Kids

Okay, here’s the thing… We aren’t an entirely screen free family. We all enjoy the occasional movie, computer time, and video games, so I’m not here to tell you to cut it off completely. I’m only here to help support you in your journey to calm, happy screen time. At our house, it’s all about balance, and I think balance is a huge part of having a peaceful life.

Holiday and Summer Screen Time Rules

Our balance comes from having a nice natural rhythm for our day, which doesn’t mean being hooked on electronics all day. The idea is for your children to find things they like to entertain themselves and not even think about the iPad.

So, what are some things that might be important before your child goes to grab the TV remote? How about basic practical life skills like getting dressed and having breakfast? How about making their bed… Did you know children as young as two can make their bed (if they are in a crib, this doesn’t apply)? We’re not going for perfection, but having children benefits the whole family.

Reading Time: I probably don’t even have to stress the importance of daily reading, but if you want to learn more about why everyone should read daily click here.

Writing, drawing, coloring, and painting can be fun and relaxing.

Going outside to play and explore should be a part of every day. There is so much to see and do. Nature walks, climbing trees, playing games with friends, and so much more. If you follow us on Instagram you’ll see lots of great outdoorsy fun.

Last but not least, Build Something… Block play, Lego, and Marble Runs are open-ended toys that get your child’s imagination flowing and provide endless possibilities for thinking and engineering development.

The Motto for every day is: Don’t Forget To Be Awesome!

When you have all of these great ideas, it won’t be about screen time or parental control. It will be about enjoying life with a little screen time here and there.

I hope this printable helps your family with screen time and makes it easy to find a good balance.
