Okay here’s the thing… We aren’t a completely screen free family. We all enjoy the occasional movie, computer time, and video game, so I’m not here to tell you to cut it off completely. I’m only here to help support you in your journey to calm, happy, screen time. At our house, it’s all about balance and I think balance is a huge part of having a peaceful life.
Screen Time Rules for Kids

Holiday and Summer Screen Time Rules
Our balance comes from having a nice natural rhythm for our day and that doesn’t mean being hooked on electronics all day. The idea is really for your children to find things that they like to entertain themselves and not even think about the Ipad 😉
So what are some things that might be important before your child goes to grab the TV remote? How about basic practical life skills like getting dressed and having breakfast. How about making their bed… Did you know children as young as 2 years old can make their bed (if they are in a crib this doesn’t apply). We’re not going for perfection, but having children help benefits the whole family.
Reading Time: I probably don’t even have to stress the importance of daily reading, but if you are interested in learning more about why everyone should read daily click here.
Writing, drawing, coloring, and painting can be fun and relaxing.
Going outside to play and explore should be a part of every day. There is so much to see and do. Nature walks, climbing trees, games with friends and so much more. If you follow us on Instagram you’ll see lots of great outdoorsy fun.
Last but definitely not least Build Something… Block play, Lego, Marble Runs these open-ended toys get your child’s imagination flowing and provides endless possibilities for thinking and engineering development.
The Motto for every day is: Don’t Forget To Be Awesome!
When you have all of these great ideas it won’t be about screen time parental control. It will be about enjoying life with a little screen time here and there 🙂
I hope this printable helps your family with screen time and makes it easy to find a good balance.

I used this list ALL last summer and it was SO awesome and perfect. It even made our homeschool year go so much smoother this year since they had better limits over the summer. Thank you so much for this. I’m tweaking this for next summer to make it specific to their chores, etc. I’m sharing it for my friends!
Yay!! That makes me so happy. I’m glad you liked it so much and it worked for you.
I agree with you Kimberly, it is all about balance when it comes to screen time for children (and adults too). I particularly enjoyed your list of rules – they are a great reminder to all of us!
Thank you
Balance is good thing, not only with our kids, but in life too. Thank you for wonderful tips.
