To make your memory game, print two copies of the shark printable below. I print all of our printables on cardstock, so they are thicker. I added colored paper to the back (because it’s pretty) and laminated them.
Shark Memory Game
Playing a shark matching game can offer several benefits for kids, including:
1. Cognitive Development: Matching games can enhance memory, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Kids learn to recognize patterns and improve their ability to recall information.
2. Visual Discrimination: These games help children differentiate between shapes, colors, and patterns, which is crucial for reading and writing skills.
3. Hand-Eye Coordination: Manipulating cards or pieces in a matching game can improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
4. Language Skills: Describing the sharks and discussing the game can expand vocabulary and improve communication skills.
5. Concentration and Patience: Matching games require focus and patience, teaching kids to concentrate on tasks and wait for their turn.
6. Social Skills: Playing with others encourages cooperation, taking turns, and following rules, which are important social skills.
7. Emotional Development: Winning and losing in a game setting can help children learn to manage emotions and develop resilience.
8. Educational Value: If the game includes shark facts, it can be a fun way to learn about marine life and the importance of ocean conservation.
Shark matching games can be entertaining and educational, providing a well-rounded developmental experience for children.
Shark Matching Game
The kids love object-to-picture matching. We have used it multiple times in our themed learning units. Plus, it is a great pre-reading skill. We use real pictures as much as possible because it’s essential for your children to learn what real sharks look like.
We use the Safari Toob animals a lot with hands-on learning. They seem to be the perfect size for little hands. Even my older boys love to collect and play with these figures. Perfect!
