Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (FIAR)
What a great time we’ve had Rowing Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. We were lucky and had the perfect weather for it this week.
The boys and I enjoyed reading and writing poetry, Nature walks through the woods, tracking animals, making crystal snowflakes, and of course, we had to have hot chocolate.
The boys love making snow flake crystals (I filled the jars 3/4 of the way full will hot water, and the boys added 1/3 cup Borax) make sure you let them sit overnight to crystallize. They look beautiful hanging in the window.
The 3 part Montessori cards the children used can be found here. They thought these were interesting. We also read the book Crinkleroot’s Book of Animal Tracking by Jim Arnosky; I highly recommend this book for kids. It was very cute and informative.
The boys spent time writing their very own Acrostic poems on Winter, and they created some lovely Art. We also created a lap book which you can find here.
We enjoyed nature this week, the cold crispness of the air, the way the icicles glistened hanging from the roof, the sound of the snow under our feet, and the animals scurrying through the trees.
“Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.”
-Edgar Allan Poe
