Add the flour, salt, and cream of tartar to a medium mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
-
Add the warm water and oil to a medium saucepan. Stir well to mix.
-
Slowly pour half of the flour mixture into the water and whisk to combine. Add the remaining flour and whisk until most of the lumps have disappeared.
-
Place the saucepan on the stovetop under medium heat. Stir constantly until a thick lump of dough forms. (It will look like lumpy mashed potatoes). Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
-
Divide the dough in half (or a little more for the green playdough) and place 4-5 drops of green food coloring on top of one of the dough balls. Place in a Ziplock-type bag, seal and knead the bag for 5 minutes to distribute the color. This is a mess-free way for kids to color their homemade playdough!
-
Place 4-5 drops of red food coloring on top of the remaining dough ball and place in a plastic bag. Seal the bag and knead for 5 minutes to distribute the red color.
-
Store the playdoughs in a sealed airtight plastic bag for up to one month.
