Pond Theme Activities – STEM – Free Printables

Pond theme activities for preschoolers are an enchanting and educational way to celebrate the arrival of spring. As the weather warms and nature bursts back into life, ponds become a hub of activity, providing a perfect backdrop for young children to learn and play.

Pond Life for Kids

Here are some delightful pond theme activities that can bring joy and wonder to preschoolers in the spring:

Pond Life Sensory Bin: Create a sensory bin filled with water, plastic aquatic animals, rocks, and aquatic plants. Preschoolers can use their hands to explore this mini pond, developing their sense of touch and learning about the different creatures that live in a real pond environment. Frog Jumping Game: Turn learning into active play with a frog jumping game. Cut out lily pads from green paper and spread them out on the floor or use the Duck Mats Here. Children can pretend to be frogs and hop from lily pad to lily pad, encouraging gross motor skills and coordination.
Duck Pond Art: Provide preschoolers with blue paper, yellow paint, and feathers to create their own duck pond scenes. They can use their fingers or brushes to paint ducks and add feathers for a tactile experience. This activity promotes creativity and fine motor development.

Bells loves using her science set. She has spent a lot of time measuring out the water and checking out all of the cool things found in the pond.

Exploring collections found around the pond

Bells is really into counting and numbers, so we used these adorable ducks as part of our math set-up. We have also really enjoyed The Young Minds Numbers & Counting Video it is filled with beautiful pictures and classical music.

At this point, Bells doesn’t watch any videos, but this was great for us to put on for 5-10 minutes a day. The whole video is approximately 45 minutes, and if you have Amazon Prime you can view it for free.
