Everyone is talking about STEAM this Fall. It’s a hot topic in Kindergarten classrooms everywhere. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. These subjects might seem a bit complex for kindergartners, but it’s never too early to start building a foundation.
Your preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary children might not be ready to grasp coding or multiplication yet, but they can still have fun exploring STEM and STEAM skills through play.
Fall STEAM Activities for Kids
There are lots of amazing ways you can explore STEAM principles and build these important skills with your kindergarten learners this Fall.
Keep reading to learn more about the kinds of activities you and your kids can explore this season. Then, download your own free printable Fall STEAM activities checklist to keep your kiddos busy learning and exploring this season.
STEM Questions for Little Scientists
Scientists ask questions. This Fall, you can encourage your kindergartners to explore science by first asking questions. Talk about the scientific method and how scientists use the method combined with some really great questions to learn about things. Explain that scientists don’t know everything, so they observe carefully and then ask questions about what they observe.
Here are some great Fall science questions to ask and explore with your kindergartners:
- Why do apples turn brown?
- Why do leaves change colors?
- What was the space race?
- Why do some animals hibernate?
- What do animals need to do to hibernate?
- What is a germ?
- How do germs spread?
Your little learners will have lots of fun finding the answers to these questions together this Fall. After you’ve asked the questions, set up an experiment to find the answer!
Science Experiments for Kindergartners
After observing and asking questions, scientists form a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess about what the answer will be. Tell your kindergarteners that you can do experiments to test your hypothesis to determine if you’re right or not.
I bet your little scientists will have some excellent experiment ideas for testing the Fall questions above!
Just in case you need some experiment idea help, check out some of the fun experiments you can do with your kindergartners in the classroom or at home this Fall!
- Dissect a pumpkin
- Dissolve candy corn
- Dissect an apple
- DIY ice cream in a bag
- Make an anti-gravity experiment
- Turn white flowers into different colors
All these fun ideas and more are included in the free STEAM activity printable you can download below, so don’t forget to print one out and get started learning and having fun today.
Fall Themed Art Activities
Science has certainly taught us many things, but we can learn a lot through art too. This Fall, you can explore art with your kindergartners through themed art experiments and projects.

Fall is the perfect season for getting outdoors, it’s not too hot or too cold. You can use this beautiful weather to explore the natural world with your kindergartners. It’s the perfect time to take a walk in the woods, observe the changing leaves, collect some natural objects, and take lots of pictures to be used in your art projects later.
You might be surprised by the things your children find beauty in (like mushrooms, acorns, and pebbles).
