Welcome back to the 12 Months of Montessori Learning Series. This month is all about nature with lots of Pond Theme Activities. If you’ve been here before then you know how much we love incorporating nature into our everyday life and learning. This month the weather has been great and we’ve made it a point to visit the pond regularly.
If you have a pond nearby, I highly suggest taking a fieldtrip there. I hope you enjoy these pond theme activities and get the chance to incorporate STEM into your learning.
Pond Activities for Preschoolers
Preschool Science – Inspecting Pond Water
Bells loves using her science set. She has spent a lot of time measuring out the water and checking out all of the cool things found in the pond.
Exploring collections found around the pond
Bells is really into counting and numbers right now, so we used these adorable ducks as part of our math set-up. We have also really enjoyed The Young Minds Numbers & Counting Video it is filled with beautiful pictures and classical music. At this point Bells doesn’t really watch any videos, but this was great for us to put on for 5-10 minutes a day. The whole video is approximately 45 minutes and if you have Amazon Prime you can view it for free.
5 Little Ducks
I’ve always been a Raffi fan, so incorporating a little music and dance inspired by our pond theme is perfect! I found these adorable duck counting cards on Life Over C’s. I’ve provided the link below.
I apologize for not sharing our set up and activities with the actual printables this month, but we’ve had such a great time exploring the actual pond 🙂 We have enjoyed the printables a lot at home though. You’ll find fun coloring pages, cutting pages/handwriting pages and read and write pond words.
