Easy Ways to Teach Preschoolers About Jesus

There are so many easy ways to get started teaching preschoolers about Jesus! I like using thematic units to teach important lessons to kids in this age group. Teaching with preschool themes helps students create meaningful connections between different topics and areas of study.

Plus, Christian preschool themes are a great place to start learning about the Bible and beginning to understand how it connects to every aspect of our lives. I can’t wait to share my favorite Christian lesson plans for bringing it all to life with your youngest learners!

Tell Your Favorite Bible Stories

What’s your favorite bible story? Why is it your favorite? As a child, I remember the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendego in the fiery furnace. The imagery in the story and the idea that God protected them from any harm really stuck with me as a child.

Begin teaching the bible to your preschoolers with your favorite stories. You’ll be much more excited about sharing the stories that stuck with you, and your preschoolers will pick up on that excitement too. It’s a win-win!

Teach Children to Hide Verses in Their Hearts

2 Timothy 2:15 says “Study to show thyself approved unto God.” It’s important to teach even our youngest children to hide the word in their hearts so that they can recall it when they face challenges. Thankfully, there are lots of easy and fun ways to help children begin learning bible verses in the classroom and at home.

Copywork is a great way for kids to practice handwriting and memorize bible verses this year. Check out Copywork for Kids: Handwriting Practice from the Bible by O’Malley Dare. The lined practice pages in this workbook are easy for preschoolers and kindergartners.

I love giving kids an incentive to learn verses too. Rewarding children who can recite the bible verse after practice is a great way to encourage kids to practice their verses and review the lesson at home too. A small piece of candy or a sticker can go a long way towards helping children memorize verses!

Use Preschool Activities and Printables Kids Can Take Home

Another helpful way to encourage parents to review the lesson and preschool activities with kids is by giving them something to take home. Preschool activities they can share with their parents and no-prep printables are an easy way to encourage this extra learning outside the classroom.

Plus, parents love seeing their child’s preschool activities and art projects. They can make adorable keepsakes and spark important conversations about faith at home.

Bible Story Teaching Aids for Preschool Lesson Plans

I think one of the reasons I remember so many bible stories is the felt boards. My Sunday school teacher was a big fan of using felt boards to help tell a bible story. This bible story teaching aid is easy to add to your preschool lesson plans this year.

Little Folk Visuals has created some great full-color felt and flannel figures and boards you can use to bring all your favorite bible stories to life with preschoolers this year.  I love the Ruth and Esther storyboards and the Parables of Jesus boards.

Sometimes your youngest learners need story props they can touch, not just pictures to look at while they listen. That’s why I love object lessons. Have you seen the Easter story eggs? They’re one of my favorite Christian preschool theme object lessons!

Check out Family Life’s Resurrection Egg Set for your Easter lesson plans this year. Along with symbols of the Easter story, you’ll get a booklet to help you tell the story using these objects with your preschoolers. It’s a great set to use at home or with your Christian preschool classroom theme this Easter.
