Once you become a parent, you want to do everything right. You read all of the parenting books and you not only want to care for your child’s needs but also do things to advance their mind. Reading aloud to children is one of the easiest ways to help a child with cognitive, communication and thinking skills. Plus, it’s an excellent way to bond more with your child. Cuddling up with books and reading at bedtime are some of our favorite memories. Today I will share a few reasons why it’s important to read to children of all ages.

You can read aloud to your child from day one. Even as a newborn baby swaddled up in your arms, they can hear your voice. Reading aloud to your child at any age helps build a parent and child bond. It will also help their vocabulary and speech as they start to talk.
If you have younger children read books that peak their interests like Little Blue Truck and Dear Zoo.
If you have kids at all ages or a little older, try reading family classics like Harry Potter, Where the Red Fern Grows and Wonder.
Helps with Pronunciation
As you read aloud to your children, they start to learn how to pronounce words. Your child is listening to you speak each word which encourages them to say words correctly. Whether you are in the board book stage or reading middle school books, your child will benefit from learning new words and hearing great literature.
Teaches Reading Skills
When you read aloud to your children, they start to develop reading skills naturally. Consider using your index finger to follow along with the words on the page to assist in teaching your child to read. You are also helping your child develop language and listening skills they will need throughout their life.
