There are so many things to love about winter. The cozy sweaters, hot chocolate warming our hands, smells from a wood burning fireplace and of course the children playing in the snow. I also think of homemade soups simmering away and fresh cranberries being strung as decoration. Winter is on its way and we are excited to share our Christmas cranberry no cook play dough.
Sweet Smelling Homemade No Cook Play Dough
You might notice Miss Bells smelling the wonderful play dough. She is so used to our delicious smelling dough. I don’t think we can go back to unscented. Not to mention this is such a great sensory activity for everyone involved.
The Recipe is easy and the kids can help.
You will need:
2 cups of flour
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
2 Tablespoons oil (whatever cooking oil you like. I usually use coconut oil)
3/4-1 cup Cranberry Juice
We added several squeezes of our red glitter Watercolors for extra fun.
Fresh or Frozen Cranberries totally optional.
We LOVE adding Essential Oils to our play dough.
1st you want to add all of your dry ingredients together in a bowl. (great job for kids)
2nd Add oil
3rd Heat 1 cup of cranberry juice to a soft boil and slowly pour it into dry mixture. (adult job) I add 3/4 of a cup first and mix, if it seems a little dry add more. Since my little ones are usually the ones adding the dry ingredients sometimes a little bit ends up on the counter instead of the bowl. We are working on that. So in the end you will want 3/4-1 cup of hot cranberry juice.
4th Mix for a couple of minutes.
5th Optional: add color of choice. Food Coloring, Kool aid, Watercolors, and/or essential oils.
6th Mix until it forms a ball and let cool for 10 minutes.
We had a wonderful day playing with our cranberry dough. All of the kids gathered round and enjoyed making shapes, cranberry sauce, and spending time together.
I can’t wait to show you what we did with the dough…
