Pumpkin Math Activities and Printables
There are great no-prep math printables in this pumpkin pack!
Check out some of the fun math activities you can do together in this unit study:
Roll and Graph Activity
Use the pumpkin seed die included in this printable pack and the themed graphing page to create a unique pumpkin seed graph together. It’s a great way to explore making and using bar graphs with your early learners this Fall.
Number Puzzles for Preschool and Kindergarten
Build skip counting skills with pumpkin number puzzles. Each strip has a number; when the numbers are in the correct order the image is revealed. Kids can check their work for accuracy by reviewing the pumpkin image. If the picture is in order, they have been successful at skip counting.
I’ve included puzzles for counting by evens and odds for extra practice too. Skip counting can be so much fun.
Pumpkin Math Clip Cards
These cute cards use clothespins and buttons to help kids practice number recognition, counting skills, and one to one correspondence. Plus, the images follow the pumpkin life cycle, so it’s a great way to introduce your little learners to the idea that pumpkins follow a cycle of growth and change.
5 Little Pumpkins Song
Counting songs help children to memorize number order and practice their counting skills. The 5 Little Pumpkins counting song is a really cute rhyming way to explore counting with young children. Singing the song together is fun, engaging, and great early math practice!
Pumpkin science is perfect for fall activities for little learners!
All you need to do is… float them, weigh them, measure them, and cut them open to see what’s inside. This Fall, get your kids thinking like scientists.
Teach them to ask questions, investigate, and come up with their own experiments and projects as you explore pumpkins with this unit study.
I’ve included some helpful printables in this unit study to help you build a pumpkin investigation station and learn more about the pumpkin’s life cycle together as you explore these giant vegetables.
Fall Language Arts Activities
No unit study would be complete without language and literacy activities. In this pumpkin printable pack, I’ve included pumpkin part and growth cycle cards for extra reading practice and phonemic awareness.
Fall is the perfect time to snuggle up with a good book. Plus, reading aloud to your children helps them develop an interest in reading and fosters a love of books from an early age.
Here are some of our favorite pumpkin books to share with your family this Fall

Field Trip to the Pumpkin Farm
An All About Pumpkins Unit Study just wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the pumpkin patch! Take your little learners to visit the farm and experience the pumpkin life cycle first hand. It’s a great opportunity to talk with your local farmer about how and when pumpkins grow.
Many farmers are happy to answer questions and show children around the farm. They might even throw in a hayride!
While you’re there, be sure to choose a good pumpkin to carve together once you get home. For added learning fun, have your children help to weigh and measure the pumpkin before you purchase it.
Once you have the perfect pumpkin, prepare for carving!
Charlotte Mason and Montessori Inspired Fall Activities
Carving pumpkins together as a family is one of our favorite fall traditions!
Pumpkin carving activities help kids:
- Build critical thinking skills
- Explore early math concepts
- Develop creativity and imagination
Once everyone has designed and carved their very own pumpkin, have a contest to decide who has the most creative pumpkin, the silliest pumpkin, and the biggest pumpkin. You can create as many fun categories for judging as you like.

Faithful Pumpkins Story
While you’re carving pumpkins, investigate all the parts: seeds, pump, stem, fibrous strands. Then, talk about what these amazing vegetables can teach us about God and our relationship with him.
Here’s a cute story you can share with your little ones:
We are a lot like these pumpkins! Just like we went to the patch and carefully chose our own special pumpkin, God chose you (John 15:16). Then, He cleans us up in much the same way we washed the dirt from our pumpkins (2 Corinthians 5:17). Just as we scooped out all the yucky pumpkin goop, God removes yucky sin from our lives (Romans 6:6). Finally, He makes us into something new and beautiful like our smiling pumpkin faces (Psalm 71:23). In the end, God gives us a little light to shine for everyone to see (Matthew 5:16).
Sharing this story as you carve your pumpkins is a great hands-on way to give your children a visual of how we are created, claimed, and changed by God.
Talking about faithful pumpkins has become a part of our annual pumpkin carving tradition, something that’s special to all of us.
