We happily added this craft to our always-growing Dr. Seuss activities and I have a feeling we’re going to be making this over and over again. (and with how simple it is, why not?!)

When you use The Lorax template, this craft just couldn’t be any more simple. Besides the template, you only need 4 other supplies! That’s it! (and I bet that you have them already somewhere in your house!)

This is a great preschool craft to get everyone prepared and excited about a Dr. Seuss birthday party. Or, if you want to make the craft to go along with the reading of the book, that’s a perfect idea as well.

 

What We Can Learn from The Lorax

Take Care of Nature

The Lorax teaches us that trees, animals, and nature are special! We need to protect them, not hurt them. When the Once-ler cuts down all the trees, the animals lose their homes. We should always be kind to nature!

Listen to Good Advice

The Lorax tried to warn the Once-ler to stop cutting trees, but he didn’t listen. It’s important to listen when someone is trying to help us make good choices!

Sharing is Better Than Being Greedy

The Once-ler wanted ALL the trees for himself to make money. But being greedy made everything worse! It’s better to share and think about others.

Everyone Can Help!

At the end, the boy gets one tiny seed. Even though he’s just one kid, he can plant it and help the trees grow back! YOU can help too by:

• Planting flowers or trees
• Picking up trash
• Turning off lights to save energy
• Recycling paper and bottles

It’s Never Too Late to Fix Mistakes

Even though the Once-ler made big mistakes, he gives the last seed to the boy. This means we can always try to make things better, even if we messed up before.

Speak Up for What’s Right

The Lorax wasn’t afraid to stand up for the trees! When you see something wrong, it’s brave to speak up (in a kind way).

Remember: “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

That means YOU can make a difference!

How to Make the Lorax Paper Plate Craft

Are you excited to get started? All you need to do is gather up these simple supplies:

• Paper plate
• Orange paint
• Paintbrush
• Quick-dry tacky glue or school glue
• Lorax Template File

Before getting started, make certain that you download and print The Lorax template!

Keep this tip in mind: If you’re printing with a cutting machine, upload the correct file to your software. Then, resize the images to fit one single 8 ½ by 11 page. Select to print and cut. Be aware that the SVG and EPS files are in black and white. If you choose to print in color, you will need to set those colors within your software manually.

But don’t leave those features off the plate for long…

To get started, paint the paper plate orange and allow it to dry completely.

Then, glue the Lorax’s facial features on the paper plate. Just like that, it’s The Lorax!
