A couple of our favorite ways are to incorporate them into a writing tray or writing activity.
You can use sand, salt, or sugar to practice writing letters.
Or set up a fun and educational alphabet sensory bin activity with your preschool and kindergarten learners.
First, choose a filler; we happen to really like waterbeads. Then, print, laminate, and hide your weather letters in your sensory bin. For an exciting weather activity for the early years, have your preschoolers dig out the letters of the alphabet and arrange them in alphabetical order to practice letter identification skills.

Teaching Kids about Clouds
Teaching kids about clouds can be a fun and engaging experience! Here are some ideas and activities to help them learn:
Introduction to Clouds
- What Are Clouds?: Explain that clouds are made of tiny water droplets or ice crystals that are suspended in the air.
- Types of Clouds: Introduce the main types of clouds: cumulus (fluffy), stratus (layered), cirrus (wispy), and nimbus (rainy).
Cloud Identification
- Cloud Chart: Create a simple chart with pictures of different types of clouds. Kids can color them and learn to identify them in the sky.
- Cloud Spotting: Take the kids outside on a clear day and have them look up at the sky. Ask them to identify the clouds they see using the chart.
Cloud Formation Experiment
- DIY Cloud in a Jar: Fill a jar with hot water and place a lid on it. After a few minutes, remove the lid and add ice to the top. Watch as condensation forms on the lid, mimicking how clouds are formed.
Weather Connection
- Clouds and Weather: Discuss how different types of clouds can indicate different weather conditions. For example, cumulus clouds can mean fair weather, while nimbus clouds often bring rain.
- Weather Journal: Have kids keep a journal of the weather for a week, noting the types of clouds they see and the weather each day.
Art and Creativity
- Cloud Crafts: Use cotton balls to create fluffy cumulus clouds on blue construction paper. Kids can also create a mobile of different cloud types.
- Story Time: Read books about clouds and weather, such as “It Looked Like Spilt Milk” by Charles G. Shaw.
Interactive Learning
- Cloud Songs: Teach them songs about clouds and weather to make learning memorable.
- Online Resources: Use educational videos or interactive websites that explain clouds and weather phenomena in a kid-friendly way.
