We created these to invite some new neighbors to come over and join us for snowy day fun & sledding get together! (The supplies can be flexible based on what you happen to have on hand and can be adjusted for other seasons, think sand and shells for a summer playdate invite or leaves and acorns for fall.)
You can add any kindness note or saying that you want, for example:
- Thank you for being a good neighbor
- Enjoy this winter wonderland
- Come out and play in the snow with us
- Do you want to join us for hot chocolate
- I shoveled your sidewalk so you won’t slip
- You are a good friend

How to Make a Winter Kindness Jar
Suggested supplies:
- 1 pint-sized jar with a lid
- About 18 inches of ribbon (want to make sure you have enough to make a loop and a big knot).
- Glitter, snowflakes, wintery stickers, paper snowflakes, beads, crystals, cotton balls and other little winter treasures to put inside the jar with your note.
- A tag or note with a message on it
For these wintery jars, look for something that is fluffy like snow, cotton balls, batting, white fabric… any of these are great!
For these jars we had some salt crystal pieces on hand from another craft project and mixed those into the jar along with some sparkling beads to add a bit of shine and fun to the jars.
We then added some foam snowflakes, stickers, cut out paper snowflakes could also help further enhance the winter feeling!
Kindness Snow Day Idea
We wrote a tiny note on the snowflake inviting them to play, you could do the same or write it on a separate paper or hang a tag on the jar that has more details.
If you do not have a lid with a hole you could carefully cut one out or tie the ribbon around the top of the jar and twist the lid on over it to hopefully lock the ribbon in place.
Random Acts of Kindness
We tested out the finished jar on our door first to ensure everything would stay in place before making the surprise delivery.
Make sure the items going into the jar are age and size appropriate for the children and adults receiving the jar to avoid little hands picking up things they shouldn’t have.
