This Peppermint Playdough recipe is unique in the fact that it’s the combination of two colors with an amazing smell. We’ve probably all made other types of homemade playdough that honestly didn’t really smell that great.
But this one is different. This one has a fun texture, a great smell and offers up the need for your child to use a wide variety of their senses!
Make certain to let them join in the fun of making this homemade playdough because it’s a super simple activity that they can easily help to create.

How to Make Playdough
What’s Needed
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
- ¼ Cup Salt
- ¾ Cup Boiling Water
- 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- Red Food Coloring
- Peppermint extract
This recipe makes one batch of red playdough. For the white, make the same recipe but leave out the food coloring.
Add flour, cream of tartar, and salt in a medium size bowl, mix well.
To the boiling water, add the oil, 3-5 drops of peppermint extract, and 10-12 drops of red food coloring.
Pour immediately into the dry ingredients and mix together.
Once it is all mixed, take out and place on a floured surface. Knead for 2-3 minutes until it’s no longer sticky. Add more flour if needed, but not too much.
*The playdough will be a little hot so make sure an adult is supervising.
Peppermint Playdough
Have fun playing and when done, store in an air-tight container or large baggie for up to a week.
