Pumpkin Activities for Kindergarten
Learn About Pumpkin Life Cycles
Introducing kindergartners to life cycles is a great way to help kids begin to understand the natural world. All living things go through life cycles. Exploring these cycles with fun pumpkin life cycle worksheets and activities is a great way to talk about changes in life with your kids.
The pumpkin life cycle has many parts: seed, sprout, plant, flower, green pumpkin, and finally the big orange pumpkin we all know and love.
Learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin can help kindergartners understand natural order, give them opportunities to practice sequencing, and help them understand the role of the farmer growing the pumpkins too.
Sensory Pumpkin Investigation Station
I love hands-on learning experiences that incorporate many senses for kids of all ages, but especially for kindergarten and preschool learners.
This Fall, you can explore your big orange pumpkin with your sense of sight, smell, touch, and even taste as you complete this pumpkin investigation station activity.
Multisensory learning activities encourage whole-brain learning. It’s all about involving multiple areas of the brain to help your kindergartners really master a concept. With this pumpkin investigation station, you’ll be helping your kids master important early science concepts with a fun multisensory approach.
First, examine the outside of the pumpkin. Talk about the texture of the pumpkin, its color, the stem, and the sound a pumpkin makes when you thump it. Try to lift the pumpkin, try to roll it, you can even weigh it or measure it.
Then, crack open your pumpkin and explore the inside. You can provide tools for your kindergartners to scoop, scrape, and investigate what’s inside the pumpkin. Really encourage your early learners to get into the pumpkin with their hands.
Ask questions like “What does it feel like? Is it slimy? Squishy?”
Your kindergartners can use the pumpkin investigation station worksheets in the printable pumpkin activity bundle to help record all the things they see and discover as they investigate.
Then, use the worksheets to encourage your kindergartners to write about what they have found or make a graph recording the class responses.
