Under the Sea Games
Do you think the fish play games under the sea? You can pretend to swim around like fish with your kids, in the pool, or even in your living room. As you swim, play a game of undersea tag. Instead of “it,” pretend to be a shark and swim around looking for fish.
My kids love a silly game I invented one night at a hotel pool. I was too tired to want to get in the water, so I sat by the pool watching them swim. Periodically, I called out “Shark in the water!” and begin to count. My children would squeal and swim to the steps. They were safe if they made it to the steps before I made it to 10. It entertained them for half an hour and they still beg to play whenever we go swimming.
As you can see, under the sea themed games are some of my favorites! Playing games together is a fun way to spend quality time full of learning and (at least in our house) laughter. Games teach kids important life skills too, like how to wait for their turn and be a good sport.
We like learning games like letter matching with seashells, shark memory, and under the sea bingo. Learn how to play these games and lots of other fun ocean games with your little ones.

Exploring the Ocean with Sharks
Discovering the underwater world of sharks can inspire kids to learn and have fun at the same time. Utilize different ways to engage their senses, creativity, and energy.
Sensory Bins and Water Tables
Create an ocean-themed sensory bin or water table to let children explore the textures and colors of the sea. Fill a bin with water beads, blue-tinted water, and toy sharks. You can add sand, shells, and small seaweed pieces for more variety.
Involve your kids in imaginative play by pretending the sharks are swimming and hunting. This tactile experience helps develop fine motor skills and offers a playful way to learn about shark habitats. Rotate items occasionally to keep the activity fresh and exciting.
Crafty Fins and Scales
Let your children express their creativity with shark-themed crafts. Use paper plates to make shark jaws or let them design a shark using colored construction paper, markers, and googly eyes.
Sock puppets can also be a fun project. Turn a simple sock into a shark with fabric glue, felt, and fabric markers. Encourage kids to put on a puppet show with their new creations, inviting them to tell shark stories or facts they’ve learned.
Shark-Themed Storytime
Storytime is a great way to dive into learning about sharks. Choose engaging books like “Clark the Shark” or “Shark Lady” that introduce fun facts and interesting stories. Reading can spark curiosity and lead to meaningful discussions.
Make storytime interactive by asking questions about the books. Have kids draw scenes from the stories or act them out. Mixing reading with artistic activities helps reinforce their learning and keeps them engaged.
Shark Music and Movement
Combine learning with physical activity through shark-themed music and movement. Play songs like “Baby Shark” and create a dance routine or a follow-the-leader game. Singing and dancing to shark songs can be a joyful way to exercise and learn.
Incorporate simple movements like swimming motions, jumping, and clapping. This helps children improve their motor skills and rhythm. You can also create a mini obstacle course that mimics the ocean, encouraging kids to “swim” through it like sharks.
